Outlaws: Outlaws:

An exhibit in a Denver, CO design gallery presented the perfect opportunity for Denyse to explore her conceptions–and misconceptions–of the American West.  Denyse spent many hours watching old Clint Eastwood westerns while working on her ideas. In particular, the film, "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" served as inspiration for Outlaws.  One of the black bars has a small piece of kimono fabric with a gold embroidered flower, which feels like a sheriff's badge, while another sports a hint of print – perhaps the lining of a vest – revealing an outlaw's hidden passion for haberdashery. At the time Denyse was working on the quilt, Denver was blanketed with (and paralyzed by) several feet of snow, which determined that each quilt in the series would feature white grounds.  This quilt started as a sketch, then the concept was worked out full scale on the wall before being pieced together like a puzzle.

This quilt is a queen, measuring 86" by 94".  Cotton and wool, machine-quilted.
