My Sister's Paintings

This body of work is by my sister, Joanne Usher. I'm making it available to purchase via my site for a limited time. Many of these paintings are of the Swan River salt marshes on Cape Cod, where our parents lived and where we spent all our summers growing up.

My sister has Marfan Syndrome, a genetic degenerative connective tissue disorder, which has profoundly impacted her life. Learn more about the disorder and support research efforts here.

My sister is eight years older than me, and when she was a student at the Worcester Art Museum School in the 70's, I sometimes attended classes with her, and often served as her photography model.

I listened to the music she played in her room (Woodstock, James Taylor, Patti Smith), spied on her and her cool art school friends, and coveted her 1970's wardrobe. Throughout my life, her creative spirit and work and generous and positive nature greatly influenced my own artistic development.
