All Together Quilt Book
Perfect for those who love to quilt or want to learn, and anyone who believes that great things can happen when a diverse group of people works together towards a common goal. The All-Together Quilt works beautifully with STEM curriculum and is a great launchpad for maker projects and conversations about community action and inter-generational sharing. A GREAT book for quilters to share with children and grandchildren! Winner of the 2021 Connecticut Book Award, and selected by CT Center for the Book to represent the state at the 2022 Library of Congress Book Festival.
I'm proud to offer this delightful book by my friend, author and illustrator Lizzy Rockwell! In it she shares the heartwarming story of volunteers of all ages who gather at the community room, and step by step, design, sew, and hand-quilt a special gift. Lizzy was inspired by her friends at Peace by Piece: The Norwalk Community Quilt Project, who have been gathering since 2008 to create original hand-crafted wall-quilts for libraries, schools, and a museum in Connecticut. In the back pages of the book, you learn the story behind the story, as well as tips for how to design your own quilt blocks in paper collage. In preparation for this book, Lizzy worked with others to make the real All-Together Quilt, and integrated reproductions of the actual fabrics into her ink and watercolor illustrations. Descriptions of the fabric designs, including those by the contemporary designer and quilter, Denyse Schmidt, Aboriginal artist, Faye Oliver and traditional wax relief and woodblock prints from around the world are also described in the book’s back pages.
Lizzy Rockwell has illustrated over 30 books for children and is the author and illustrator of How Do You Feel?, Plants Feed Me, Good Enough to Eat: A Kid’s Guide to Food and Nutrition, and The Busy Body Book: a Kid’s Guide to Fitness.
