What A Bunch of Squares
What a Bunch of Squares is one of four original quilt designs I launched my business with in 1996. I had figured out how to create patchwork improvisationally by studying the work of the artist Nancy Crow – cutting fabric by hand to capture the feeling of a hand-drawn line and assembling fabric pieces without patterns, like a collage with seams. As each block is completed, it is arranged on the wall to influence (or not) the successive blocks. The result is that no two quilts are ever exactly alike—each is an original work of art, design, and impeccable craftsmanship.
The first year I exhibited this quilt, an interior designer visiting my trade show booth commented that it was like "Josef Albers on a bender".
